There’s an area at Hyde Park South that, for our art display purposes, we call “the Island” — a wood-covered wall with booths on each side. It’s ideal for smaller pieces that benefit from a more intimate viewing experience.
April 11 through May 30, 2015 we’ll be showing the imaginative work of Ryan Sponsler on the Island at Hyde Park South. Ryan’s art reflects his belief that “a painting is an object in itself.” Let’s just say he thinks out of the box.
“A painting is an object in itself. It should not simply be used as a picture plane to hold the representation of an image. The entire structure of the painting; the materials, the paint, the colors, the forms, the textures, the composition all contribute to the unified presence of the work revealing a truer reality that lurks beneath the surface of everything. To demonstrate this I removed the picture plane making deconstructed paintings. Each work is an experiment which leads to new ideas to play around with and explore.”
