The Harmony Brothers 8-28-11 – CANCELLED DUE TO HEAT

SORRY, FOLKS BUT 110 IS JUST TOO DANG HOT!

We’ll do our best to find another date for The Harmony Brothers!

————-

Max Nofziger, Al Dressen, and Mark Gottschall

These three began rehearsing together in the summer of 2009, and haven’t stopped, since! They boast a set list of classic rock songs from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, with a few others thrown in. Al leads most of the vocals and Mark plays a mean 12-string guitar, while the three harmonize so well you’d think they were actually related! If you are attracted to three part harmony on songs from an era of great melodies, the Harmony Brothers deserve your attention. They’re a “Blast from the past,” they are “Peace, Love and Harmony,” and they will make you want to smile, clap your hands, sing along, sometimes close your eyes and dream, and maybe even yodel!

CANCELLED DUE TO HEAT — Sunday, August 28, 2011, 7-9pm – South at Westgate

Bluesday Tuesdays in August

JIMI LEE returns to Hyde Park Bar & Grill with new talent to shake things up at Westgate on Tuesday evenings in August. This smokin’ harmonica player and award-winning songwriter/performer has been turning heads for quite a while. In fact, the Austin music scene has already awarded him “pre-legendary” status!

8/2 WHITNEY CONWELL grew up searching for music which reached him on an emotional level…blues, soul, early R&B, twangy country and western swing. Inspired by Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf, Bobby Bland and Junior Parker, Big Joe Turner, Hound Dog Taylor, Buddy Holly, Commander Cody, and Asleep At The Wheel, he has sung and played guitar and tenor sax from New England to San Diego. Since 2003, he has written, recorded and performed in Austin.

8/9 TONY AIROLDI plays a South Austin Gypsy Jazz inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli’s “Swing Manouche.” With his blend of authentic Gypsy Jazz and modern, contemporary Latin influence, his music can transport you to the heart of Paris and the Mediterranean shores of Barcelona with passionate, ambient rhythms; providing an energetic and engaging entertainment experience. Learn more at http://tonyairoldi.com/.

8/16 DEWAYNE DAVIS is a singer, instrumentalist, and songwriter who has played all over the USA, and abroad. Immersed in the Austin blues scene throughout the past three decades, he has played alongside countless artists.  Since 1991, he has fronted his own band. DeWayne incorporates his original music (with twists of Texas-style Blues, County, Jazz, and Roots rock), and selections from 300+ cover tunes into his shows.

8/23 GREG IZOR is one of the rising powerhouses in the world of blues harmonica. Effortlessly blending the sounds of South Louisiana, Chicago, and Texas he creates a deeply rooted traditional sound that is unique and fresh. In his twenties, he studied in New Orleans  under the wing of one of today’s greatest harmonica players, Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone, developing his fiery showmanship on Bourbon Street. Izor’s songwriting and playing shows the influence of the harmonica masters, as well as Louisiana blues, southern soul, swamp pop, early jazz, and R&B.

8/30 ROB ROY PARNELL ” …delivers a winning and sterling set of roadhouse blues a la Delbert McClinton that travels through the range of Texas styles and modes with the assurance of a new crown prince of the scene.”  –Texas Music magazine

8/2 Jimi Lee and Whitney Conwell, 7-9pm

8/9 Jimi Lee and Tony Airoldi, 7-9pm

8/16 Jimi Lee and DeWayne Davis, 7-9pm

8/23 Jimi Lee and Greg Izor, 7-9pm

8/30 Jimi Lee and Rob Roy Parnell, 7-9pm

Residual Kid Proves Rock is Ageless

Not old enough to drive, not even teens, Residual Kid still reserve the right to rock! Their love for the classics and the newest modern have been shaping their own individual style and skills since they have been old enough to pick up their own instruments.

Max Redman (11), Ben Redman (12), Deven Ivy (12), and Grace London (11) may not yet be old enough to compete in some youth band competitions, but still produce music with talent that stands tall even in today’s modern rock standards. Click on the links below for more:

Bluesday Tuesdays in July

JIMI LEE is back with a fresh crop of talented musicians to accompany him on Tuesdays in July. This smokin’ harmonica player and award-winning songwriter/performer has been turning heads for quite a while. In fact, the Austin music scene has already awarded him “pre-legendary” status! Hear Jimi Lee’s music

RAY MACCARTY was part of the rich R&B and club scene in the South Bay, playing and recording with legendary musician Clifford Coulter. As a true San Jose musician, he has a great sense of groove, harmony, and -most important- a keen awareness of what a song most needs from a guitarist. 7/5 RSVP

GREG WILLIAMS plays a unique blend of electronics, funk, and jazz. 7/12 RSVP

CALICO AND THE OFF-BRAND BAND began in 2007, by vintage-inspired artists Fawn Larson Roy and Rebecca Richard. They have released their first album, entitled “Pictures.” Their music reflects nostalgic-yet-modern folk, indie, and acoustic vibes.  7/19 RSVP

ULRICH ELLISON is the winner of three Downbeat Awards, and rapidly gaining international recognition as an electric guitar player whose sounds and tones are starting to attract an ever growing fan base. While his background is in classical composition, blues and jazz, Ellison likes to extend his compositions into the realm of popular music. 7/26 RSVP

SOUTH – WESTGATE

7/5 – Jimi Lee & Ray MacCarty

7/12 – Jimi Lee & Greg Williams

7/19  - Jimi Lee & Calico and the Off-Brand Band
