2011 Healthcare Heroes Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 07-20-11

Healthcare Heroes Honored by Hyde Park Bar & Grill

AUSTIN― Dr. Steven Crow and Dr. Louis Appel of People’s Community Clinic (PCC) in Austin were recognized last week as Hyde Park Bar & Grill’s 2011 “Healthcare Heroes,” winning their facility close to $1,000 in the process.

This past May, Hyde Park Bar & Grill sought to highlight outstanding community service from health and healing professionals in the Austin area by launching an online contest for patrons to nominate their most admired medical workers. As an additional token of the restaurant’s appreciation, anyone wearing scrubs on Mondays in June received a generous discount on their meal at both Hyde Park Bar & Grill locations.

“We were very excited to partner with Hyde Park Bar & Grill on this event and hope to do it again next year,” said Margaret Henkels, Director of Development at People’s Community Clinic.

Dr. Steven Crow has worked and volunteered his time at PCC since he was a young medical student at the University of Texas, serving his patients with a great sense of humanity. When he’s not there, Dr. Crow works at CommUnityCare David Powell Health Center which specializes in the care and treatment of patients with HIV and AIDS. He is extremely active in the community and has a reputation as a very giving individual.

PCC Chief Medical Officer and Director of Pediatrics Dr. Louis Appel has devoted his life to providing primary health care to some of our community’s most underprivileged and vulnerable children with dignity and compassion, consistently forming close relationships with his young patients and their loved ones. His many dedicated years to PCC reflect great humility and a deep commitment to the community.

For each vote cast, Hyde Park Bar & Grill pledged a one dollar donation to People’s Community Clinic.  Bick Brown, owner of the family establishment, presented the two Healthcare Heroes’ awards and a check donation to the clinic on July 14, 2011.

“Hyde Park Bar & Grill is committed to the Austin community and it’s our privilege to honor People’s Community Clinic. We definitely want to do this again,” said Mr. Brown.

Nominate Your Healthcare Heroes!

Help us honor Austin’s Healthcare Heroes — now thru June!

We at Hyde Park Bar & Grill take great joy in knowing that you, our customers, enjoy our food and our service. But we also know that there are lots of people out there working hard to provide many other essential services and goods. We may provide great food, but other folks provide more than that. And it’s with that in mind that we created our Healthcare Heroes contest for May and June.

Nominations are coming in for Austin’s Healthcare Hero and we’re excited to see who else will join the list. Deadline for nominations is May 31 and voting will begin June 6.

So we encourage you to take this opportunity to nominate your family doctor, or any other healthcare professional who you feel has made a positive impact for a person or community.   Anyone involved in healthcare for humans (sorry, no vets this time!) – so alternative health and mental health professionals are also welcome.

Go HERE TO NOMINATE, NOW THRU MAY 31.

Contest Instructions:

NOMINATE – Healthcare Heroes during the month of May

VOTE – for Healthcare Heroes during the month of June

SAVE – wear scrubs or show medical ID every Monday in June for special savings at Hyde Park Bar & Grill

WIN – Get the most votes as a Healthcare Hero in Hyde Park Bar & Grill’s online contest to win a Grand Prize, or be the one who nominates a winner to win a Second Prize. Healthcare Heroes must be nominated and get the most votes in order to win a Grand Prize. The first to nominate them will win a Second Prize. You must register for Hyde Park’s email list to participate.

Grand Prize:

Two Grand Prizes will be awarded to the two Healthcare Heroes with the most votes at the end of June. Each will get one Grand Prize gift package valued at approximately $300.

The Grand Prize includes:
-Dinner for 4 at either Hyde Park Bar & Grill location
-Tickets to a performance at Hyde Park Theater
-A $50 gift card from Freytag’s Florist
-A paint your own pottery experience courtesy of Cafe Monet
-4 free Yoga classes from YogaYoga

2nd Prize:

The two people who nominate the two winning Healthcare Heroes will each win a gift certificate for $50 each — enough to cover a nice dinner for two at Hyde Park Bar & Grill. Each of the 2 Hyde Park Bar & Grill locations will give away one $50 Gift Card.

New Contest! Tell us what’s on The Fork after Monday, 3/21.

Just for fun, we’re going to have a little contest / drawing for our email crowd that’s related to the change in the art on The Fork as of today, March 21.   We’ll pick a winner from all those with correct answers and give that lucky and observant entrant a $25 gift card to our Central Austin location.

Everyone on our email list can enter our What's On The Fork drawing this week!

Here’s how to prepare to enter:

  1. Make sure you’re on our email list.  We send an email about every 2 weeks, and there’s a drawing or giveaway  in just about every one.
  2. Notice what’s new on The Fork after Monday, March 21.  (The Fork stands outside our Central Austin location in historic Hyde Park neighborhood at 4206 Duval.  We suggest you also friend him on Facebook at Hyde Park Fork and follow him on Twitter at HPFork.)
