Brooks however is not only a singer & songwriter, but also a story-teller, a humorist, an actor, counselor and so much more. He’s silly and serious and sometimes silent. He’s a husband, a dad, an uncle and brother and a very good friend to many.

Brooks Brannon most commonly plays at Poodies Hilltop Bar & Grill in Spicewood, Tx, but for one night he will grace us with his entrancing voice at Hyde Park Bar and Grill along side Jimi Lee.  Prepare for a night full of laughs and an all around good time!

What becomes a legend most?

In at least one case that we know, it’s a long white beard, cool hat and groovy glasses.

Is Slim Richey really a legend?  Hard to say. But ask anyone who’s heard him play — in particular ask any guitarist — and you’ll hear the same response. “Oh, yeah.  Slim’s awesome.”

(He prefers to be termed “dangerous.”  Once you hear him, you’ll know why.)

We get to see him most often as the band leader of The Jitterbug Vipers, the band to beat at our Sunday Swing shows.

But on Bluesday Tuesday, Aug 25, Slim will be our Special Guest, playing duets and swapping stories with Jimi Lee along with uber bassist Mark Epstein.   It’s kind of like hanging out with Slim and Jimi in your living room.  Except there’s someone who brings you food and drinks.

Our Bluesday Tuesdays are a crowd pleaser.   It’s your chance to meet some of Austin’s finests artists up close and personal, in a song swap and fun fest hosted by harmonica great Jimi Lee, with a different Guest each week.

To kick off the music season, Jimi’s invited lots of our most favorite guests to showcase a song or two, as a preview of what’s coming up this season.

The line up includes:

DALE SPALDING will also be there.   Unless you’re up on late on Monday nights and hanging out at TC’s Lounge, you don’t get the chance to hear Dale in Austin very often because he’s usually on the road.    He’s got the voice and the harmonica chops to be the front man of Canned Heat as well as his own Little Elmore Reed Blues Band.

STEVE CARTER, another Austin favorite, will be stopping by.  Steve just wrapped up a Bob Wills / Willie Nelson / Will Taylory and Strings Attached project called House of Wills and is looking forward to the Badfinger tribute show he’s put together for April at Momo’s.

ULRICH ELLISON, 3-time winner of Downbeat’s guitar awards, is an Austrian transplant who’s fallen in love with Austin, and the feeling is mutual.   Tasty guitar, Nordic good looks, and smooth vocals.  What’s not to like?

STEVE BERNSTEIN will bring his wailin’ sax, WHITEY CONWELL will rock the blues for you, and with MARK EPSTEIN on bass and BRANNON LANE on skins, we’ve got ourselves a supernaturally gifted band!

In case you didn’t know, there is a talented group of folks that work for Hyde Park Bar & Grill.   And it’s high time we showcased them.

Monday, June 21 we’ll have what we hope will be just the first in a series of showcases in which members of our staff perform, along with their friends and other kindred souls.

Because our first evening will feature and be hosted by our own Zephyr Jarmon, who will be joined by her brother Zeke, we’re calling these evenings “Z Time.”

Zephyr Jarmon will play and host Z Time on Monday, June 21. She's also a coffee lover.

Zephyr and Zeke Jarmon will be joined by Mariah YJ, Max Frost, and other artists from the Millenial Generation.

If you’re a swing dancer, you know this band….or you should.  The Vipers are one of the all-time top swing bands in the state.

Sunday, 11/14 will be the Viper’s last appearance at Hyde Park Bar & Grill for 2010!!!   Don’t miss it.

Sunday Swing is our weekly swing event that attracts dancers and watchers alike.  If you go, you’ll want to see the Vipers.  “No bad notes” is their story and they’re sticking to it.

A word to the wise: the weather is amazing right now and the Vipers will play just a few more Sundays  this year.  The end of November is the end of our music season on the patio and the Vipers are playing select Sundays only.  We’d sure like to know that you had a chance to sample this highly enjoyable experience.  Just sayin’ …

KitKat & The Hardway will be our special guests on Tues, June 15 with host Jimi Lee

Kathleen and Scotty joined together in the summer of 2007 to form their musical collaboration “Kit Kat & the Hardway.” They share a common heritage of love for the golden era of jazz, as well as an enjoyment of contemporary music. They are becoming known for their unique arrangements of old favorites.

Join KitKat & The Hardway with host Jimi Lee on Tues, June 15.   And remember it’s also a Tony’s Southern Fried Chicken night, too.
