6/30 (Duval Location) Bwana Doc Book Signing Benefiting The Audubon Society and REEF

When stuff like devastating oil spills happens, do you find yourself fantasizing about having unlimited funds, super-duper scientific smarts, weaponry expertise, and international connections so you could go fix the problem while giving the perpetrators their due?

Meet Bwana Doc, international environmental pirate, the man who does what it takes to end the destruction of our planet!

Bwana Doc is one bad-a** environmentalist

The creation of author/ biologist / entrepreneur / UT prof D.R. Schneider, Bwana Doc is James Bond, millionaire Bruce Wayne, and Captain Morgan all rolled into one.   And he’s on a mission to save the earth.

(In real life, Bwana Doc’s creator is a real-life environmental hero.   His company, Micro-Bac Int’l, uses microbes to eat up crude oil.  His Facebook public profile here and his enviro-blog here.)

We’re hosting a book signing for Bwana Doc’s first published adventure, SAVING THE WHALES on Wed, June 30.

Now here’s the gospel truth about this event:  it was planned before the Oil Spill.   But,  as the plot — or perhaps we should say the Gulf — thickens, the need to do something about the worst environmental catastrophe in the US has become excruciatingly clear.

This event will benefit two environmental organizations: The Audubon Society and REEF.

About the book:

Hyde Park Fork has read it and says it’s a real page-turner.

Not only is it a satisfying high adventure story with an underlying good cause, it also [spoiler alert] features Hyde Park Bar & Grill in the story.

(While HPB&G is undoubtedly an internationally-known destination, our appearance in the book is largely because the author is a devotee of our Duval Street location.)

You’ll get a signed book in return for a donation to the Audubon Society and/or REEF, a grass-roots organization that seeks to conserve marine ecosystems, and we’ll have something cool for those who correctly answer trivia questions about the book.

Minimum $10 donation (feel free to give more!) to the Audubon Society and/or REEF gets you a signed book, not to mention the satisfaction of knowing you’re doing something to help correct the worst environmental episode in US history.

Dale spends significant time on the road with Canned Heat (yes, THE Canned Heat).  But now he’s back in town and will be our special guest on Tuesday, Nov 2 with our host and all-around good guy Jimi Lee.

We’re hoping Dale will have some stories from the road . . . at least a few of which he can tell in mixed company . . .

5/11 Bluesday Tuesday w Danny Brooks & Jimi Lee

When’s the last time you were uplifted?

Well, neighbor, that’s just too long.

Bluesman Danny Brooks makes your spirit soar.

Call it blues-gospel, call it inspirational, call it whatever you like — just know that the music of Danny Brooks moves your spirit in a way that it probably hasn’t been moved in a long time.

Hailing from Canada, and a Juno award winner (the Junos are the Canadian Grammys), Danny Brooks will be our special guest on Bluesday Tuesday, May 11, along with our host Jimi Lee.

(Danny’s music is the perfect complement to Tony’s Southern Fried Chicken, too.)
