A member of the band is Peter Treece, one of our favorite customers and fellow restaurant biz guys.

Peter’s an Austinite, but other members of band live elsewhere.  Like Boston.  So it’s an event when they get together to play.

The Prospectors will be panning for dancers and diners at our south location.

JWW & the Prospectors have been busy all over these parts, playing Sam’s Burger Joint in San Antonio, Ginny’s Little Longhorn Saloon, and now Hyde Park Bar & Grill’s Sunday Swing event.

They have some chops. The band formed in mid-2007 by six seasoned Austin musicians whose prior professional experience included gigs throughout central Texas and tours of the United States and Europe. Members of the band have played with or currently play with Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys, the Bad Livers, the Racketeers, Kim Lenz, Cave Catt Sammy, Heather Rae and the Moonshine Boys, WT Special, Lucas Hudgins, and Jason Arnold and the Stepsiders. The band was brought together by a shared passion for the great honky-tonk and western swing music of the mid-20th century South and Southwest.

When one world-class harmonica player invites another harmonica player to share the stage, you know something’s up.

Brendan Power is a harmonica player's harmonica player.

Our man Jimi Lee, no slouch on harmonica himself, has invited UK-based New Zealander Brendan Power to share the spotlight on Bluesday Tuesday on June 8.

Power is acknowledged by many as one of the most creative, skilled & versatile harmonica players around today. Equally at ease on both the earthy Blues Harp as well as the sophisticated Chromatic Harmonica, he tunes them to his own scales to create a highly original style. He has recorded fifteen solo CDs to date, in a wide variety of musical genres.

Since he moved to Britain in 1992, Brendan’s eclectic skills and sympathetic ear have made him an in-demand session player, leading to live and recording work with artists such as Sting, James Galway, Van Morrison, Paul Young, Shirley Bassey, John Williams and many more. His playing is also heard on many Hollywood movie soundtracks and UK TV series. He’s featured on the Jools Holland Show and toured worldwide, performing in venues such as China’s Great Hall of the People and The Kremlin.

Tony is not only a guitarist extraordinaire, drawing well-deserved comparisons to Django Reinhardt, he’s also legendary in the Austin area as a teacher, side-man, session guy and founding member of Greezy Wheels, house band of the uber legendary Armadillo World Headquarters.   And, perhaps most important of all, he’s a beloved favorite customer at our Westgate location.

Come out to hear Tony’s latest band.  You won’t regret it.  It’s a Tony’s Southern Fried Chicken night (no relation), too, so there you go.
